Day-by-Day Itinerary
Your Maasai Mara Classic Safari begins early -- vehicles depart Nairobi at 7:00 AM to make the most of the day. The journey southwest takes approximately 5-6 hours via the Narok road, passing through the Great Rift Valley escarpment with its breathtaking panoramic views before descending onto the endless Mara plains. A mid-morning break stop at Narok town, then onward across the golden grasslands. Arrive at camp or lodge in time for lunch, then your afternoon game drive begins immediately. This first drive across the open plains sets the tone: lion prides, elephant families, giraffe and zebra in their thousands, and the electric atmosphere of Africa's greatest wildlife reserve.

Rise before dawn for a pre-breakfast game drive, when the Mara's predators are most active. Lions return from night hunts, cheetahs scan the plains from termite mounds, and leopards descend from their acacia sleeping trees. Your experienced guide reads the landscape -- fresh tracks, circling vultures, alarm calls from impala -- to find the action. A bush breakfast served in the field, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the savannah, is one of Africa's great pleasures. Return to camp for a midday rest, then depart at 4:00 PM for the golden-hour evening drive when the light is extraordinary and the Mara River crossings are most likely to occur. Witness tens of thousands of wildebeest plunging into crocodile-filled waters.

One final early morning drive before your departure -- the Mara gives generously to the last. Return to camp for a full breakfast, then pack up and depart mid-morning for the return drive to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon.
