Diani Beach Getaway

Board the SGR (Standard Gauge Railway) from Nairobi's Syokimau Station for the scenic five-hour journey to Mombasa, passing through Tsavo's plains en route. On arrival, a road transfer takes you south across the Likoni ferry crossing to Diani Beach, roughly an hour from Mombasa town. Check in to your beachfront hotel, and spend the remaining daylight getting your first look at Diani's powder-white sand and warm turquoise water. Dinner at the resort as the sea breeze rolls in.

A full day to enjoy Diani at your own pace. Swim in the calm, reef-protected shallows, relax under a beach umbrella with a book, or take advantage of optional add-on activities available directly at the resort or through local operators -- snorkelling and diving on Diani's coral reef, kite-surfing lessons, a glass-bottom boat trip, or a dhow sunset cruise. For the more active, Kaya Kinondo Sacred Forest and Colobus Conservation are both a short drive away for a change of pace from the beach.

One last relaxed morning on the beach before checking out. A road transfer returns you across the Likoni ferry to Mombasa's SGR station for the afternoon train back to Nairobi, arriving in the early evening.
