Tsavo National Park

<p>Tsavo is Kenya's largest national park, split by the Nairobi-Mombasa highway into Tsavo East -- vast open plains and the Yatta Plateau, one of the world's longest lava flows -- and Tsavo West, a more dramatic landscape of volcanic hills, natural springs and thick bush. The park is famous for its 'red elephants', herds that take on a rust-red hue from dusting themselves in the local volcanic soil. Mzima Springs in Tsavo West produces 50 million gallons of crystal-clear water daily, with an underwater viewing chamber for watching hippo and crocodile beneath the surface, while an active rhino sanctuary protects some of the park's most vulnerable residents. Together, the two parks form one of the largest continuous protected ecosystems in the world.</p>
